This filly is a half sister to our own Nickelback, a very promising 3yo gelding by Nicconi and prepared for us by Michael, John & Wayne Hawkes. Nickelback was runner up at Canterbury just prior to this sale and has since been spelled. We have a very good opinion of Nickelback and this influenced me to buy his half sister at what I thought was very good value. This filly is very well balanced and attractive to the eye. She moves nicely and is a little more compact than Nickelback at the same stage who stood over a bit more ground. Harry Angel is a first season sire who really appeals and I was keen to secure at least one yearling by him this year.
Sale Notes by Grant Morgan Harry Angel was World Champion Sprinter of his year and winner of the time honoured Gr 1 July Cup at Newmarket. Harry Angel stands at Godolphin Hunter Valley and shuttles from Dalham Hall in Newmarket UK. His oldest Australian progeny are yearlings. I saw Harry Angel race in Europe and he was a topline sprinter who acted on firm ground, typical of the Dark Angel line. I think he could work well in Australia on firmer tracks. I also like the fact he is out of a mare by Cadeaux Genereux, another top of the ground European line. Harry Angel has enjoyed solid support in Australia with books of 129, 106 and most recently 104 mares in 2021.
Sale Notes by Grant Morgan Rock Style is owned by top Queensland breeder Ged Nolan from Rosari Farm at Warwick. This filly was reared in Queensland before being sold as a weanling for $45,000 at the 2021 National Magic Millions Weanling Sale to this fillies vendors, Sledmere Stud. Nickelback was also sold as a weanling and resold as a yearling before I purchased him. The vendors were certainly hoping for much more for this filly and I was able to purchase her at tremendous value. This is a terrific Australian family and features former topline Queensland sprinting mare Zero Rock (this filly resembles Zero Rock). This is also the family of the great November Rain.
