This filly is all quality. She immediately caught my eye on inspection. Beautiful moving filly with a particular presence and x-factor. She never missed a beat at the sales, head always in the feed bin. In the paddock, she looks a real athlete and is very light on her feet. She appeals to me as a filly who will be well suited to targeting 3yo races with Guineas and Oaks races both front of mind. Her female pedigree includes an Australian Oaks winner in Gust of Wind (defeating Winx), whilst her second dam Starbourne was a very good filly and was placed in a Group 1 Irish Thousand Guineas. This filly has superior female sires Scat Daddy, Sadler’s Wells and Shirley Heights to provide stamina. She was reared at an outstanding Hunter Valley farm in Middlebrook Lodge.
Sale Notes by Grant Morgan Merchant Navy (by Fastnet Rock) was an outstanding racehorse winning the world class Group 1 sprint double of the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington and Royal Ascot Diamond Jubilee Stakes. I love Merchant Navy’s female pedigree. He brings Snippets, Last Tycoon and Twig Moss, three of my favourite female line sire influences. Merchant Navy has started his stallion career well. Merchant Navy has received good support at stud with books of 247, 156, 103 and most recently 127 mares. I expect his best performers will hit their peak as three year-olds, following in their father’s footsteps (as was the case too with grand sire Fastnet Rock).
Sale Notes by Grant Morgan This filly is an outstanding second foal from the unraced Elliptical Orbit (by Scat Daddy), a US $100,000 Keenland September Yearling in 2016. Scat Daddy has become one of the worlds best sires despite being taken prematurely in 2015. Scat Daddy has achieved an unbelievable 78.9% winners to runners ratio (most sires are luck to have 60% winners to runners). Scat Daddy is the sire of an amazing 31 individual Group 1 winners. Scat Daddy is sure to become a top-notch broodmare sire and his young daughters have already produced 5 individual Group 1 winners. I really like the Fastnet Rock cross over a Scat Daddy mare. This is a cross that Coolmore stud has huge belief in.
