Leading Sunshine Coast trainer David Vandyke has appointed Grant Morgan’s OnTrack Syndicates as his exclusive syndication partner.
The arrangement commenced with the purchase of a number of yearlings from the recent Magic Millions, Inglis Classic and New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sales for the Vandyke/OnTrack partnership.
“The OnTrack model is a good fit for me and my stable. It enables me to focus on my strengths by spending as much time as possible training my horses,” said David Vandyke.
“We have had a good working relationship since I first commenced training in Queensland and now is the ideal time for us to increase our numbers together,” said David Vandyke.
OnTrack achieved its greatest success to date with multiple Group 1 winner and champion 3yo colt Brazen Beau.
Racing in the familiar ‘All Gold’ racing silks, the Gold Coast based OnTrack operation will encourage clients to be patient when developing young horses with David Vandyke .
“We will be aiming to have stakes class metropolitan horses, many of which will most likely be mile plus horses,” said OnTrack principal Grant Morgan.
“There will be two year-olds and sprinters that come along, but our focus will be more developing horses to hit their peak as three and four year-olds and beyond over a bit of ground.
“I think when you break Australian racing down now the majority of big prizemoney sits over a bit more ground. I don’t think there is a particular advantage in targeting precocious types that struggle to get past 1200m.
“It’s very difficult for syndicators and smaller owners to buy those type of horses at the sales and compete with the big colt syndicates to get target races like the Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond or Magic Millions.
“You really have to push young horses very hard to get to those races, and we would prefer to engage a bit more patience and let horses come to their peak more naturally,” said Morgan.
Whilst they will be sourcing yearlings from both Australia and New Zealand, Vandyke and OnTrack also plan on securing European and New Zealand tried horses to satisfy clients looking for more proven gallopers.
OnTrack will continue to place new horses with other trainers in Queensland and currently has horses prepared by Tony Gollan, Toby & Trent Edmonds, Kris Lees, Chris Meagher and Lauren Abbott.
